Elizabeth Mary Beach

Artist in Residence

I create art in abstract expressionism using music and sounds as influences. Music and meditation are two great ways to relieve stress, and these disciplines helped me gain the intense concentration that I rarely achieve. Using this idea as a basis for my process has helped me create an image in my mind which I translate onto paper or canvas. The Holst Planets Suite is something I have been interested in painting for some time. I had the opportunity to play Mars, The Bringer of War, and Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity when I was in middle school and high school. These two pieces mean a lot to me because of my experience performing them. Ever since graduating from college, this series has been on my mind constantly, and am ecstatic that I have completed the series. The pandemic has led to many unfortunate things. I have had my share of loss during this time, but it has allowed me to complete this series of paintings. This is my pandemic project, I started this series right after quarantine started, and finished the series in the beginning of December.

Elizabeth is a combination abstract expressionist and realist artist from Herndon, Virginia. She applies her background of music to create art. Elizabeth takes a song and transfers the sounds of different instruments and tones into a visual with color and shapes. Each song she listens to creates a unique image, and with the immense amount of content out there in the music world, her options of ideas and concepts are also immense. She acquired an Associate’s degree in General Studies from Northern Virginia Community College and a BFA and Minor in Illustration from Marymount University. Her work has been seen in Elàn Magazine, and has been in BlueInk twice, which is Marymount’s Literary Arts Magazine. In addition, she has had work in Marymount’s Student Art Exhibition of 2017 and 2018. As well as Marymount’s Senior Art Show in December 2017. Most Recently, Elizabeth had worked accepted in group shows at The Hill Center Gallery, Old Naval Hospital and the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop in Washington DC. Before the pandemic, she has been at Marymount University’s  1st Alumni show and The RAW February 2020 Showcase in Silver Spring, MD.
